Breast MRI

Breast MRI, also called Breast MR or Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging, uses magnetic fields to created high resolution images of the breast. No radiation is involved, and the test is painless.

Breast MRI is very sensitive for the detection of breast cancer and other breast problems. It can show abnormalities not detected by ultrasound or mammography. Breast MRI can be used as a screening tool for women with increased risk of breast cancer, such as a strong family history or the BRCA mutation. Breast MRI is also used for evaluation and staging in women with known breast cancer. Biopsy can also be performed using Breast MRI. This is called “MRI guided breast biopsy."
